About The Art Kelderie

Theo Kelderman has been busy with visual arts since 1974. He started with
photography, drawing and airbrush and ended up with painting. Painting was something he did for a long time, but then as his proffesion of being a
painter. He has created a large number of wallpaintings.

From 1976 till 1981 he has photographed intensively, mainly black and white.
In that time he joined one of Netherlands wellknown amateur photogroup “de Muggen” in Haarlem. One of his pictures was choosen by the Leidse
Prentenkabinet to be in an overview of Dutch photography from the 19th and
the 20th century from the period of 1940 till 1975.

At that same time he started drawing en painting. It were some absurd ideas
converted onto lines and colours. That was how the pendrawings were born. He used the same ideas in his airbrush drawings.

It’s no surprise that later those ideas were used in simple black and white
cartoons. These cartoons were colourised in 1998 with the help of a computer and printer. Text became more and more important in his work. These texts were later converted to images. Later on text was added to the images and the textcartoons were born.

He also used texts in his collages. Thats how Paperman, also known as Harry, was created in 1978. Paperman is a doll constructed with pasted newspaper texts on a linen suit.

In 1996 he used texts in his acrylpaintings and he started the serie BudS –
Berichten uit de Samenleving- a half year cronicle from 1996.

In 1994 he decided to apply hisself to acryl painting.
